Hvar Town is a beautiful little town that lies on the southwestern coast of the island of Hvar, with a glamorous marina known as the 'French Riviera of the East.' While approaching the island by boat, it is hard not to appreciate Hvar's raw beauty, accentuated by lilac lavender fields that gently dot its interior, contrasted with the coastal part that brims with activity. And Hvar Town indeed buzzes with sparkling energy like no other place on the island. Here, you can choose among a variety of outdoor activities, such as cycling tours, wine tours, rock climbing, and scuba diving.
Hvar Town is also an ideal place to appreciate the island's dramatic sunsets. You can admire them from many scenic spots, with the Španjola Fortress being a favorite. The fortress is only a short walk from Hvar Town and offers stunning views of the town and its surroundings.
If you are fond of beach parties, the best way to enjoy Hvar's eclectic beach scene is to head to Majerovica Beach or the very popular Hula Hula Beach Club. There, you can sip a cocktail, enjoy good music, and watch the sunset. Lučišća Beach is also located near Hvar Town and is very popular due to its many caves, which make it an ideal diving spot.
Of course, exciting nightlife is almost inevitable in Hvar Town. Carpe Diem is the most popular party place in Hvar, attracting celebrities and other party lovers. Another famous club is Veneranda Nightclub, set in a Venetian fortress that overlooks the town. Visited by Prince Harry a few years ago, this club has a series of tent-like structures and a terrace that catches the sunset.
If discovering the historical traits of the town is more your style, you can visit the 15th-century Franciscan Monastery or St. Stephen's Cathedral, take leisurely strolls along St. Stephen's Square in the very center of Hvar Town, and explore the sights on the winding stone streets.

Pakleni Islands - A Paradise of Pristine Beaches and Crystal Waters

Pakleni Islands are a chain of 21 unbelievably lovely emerald isles near Hvar. Pristine beaches, startlingly clear waters, deserted lagoons, lush vegetation, fine dining, and spellbinding sunsets. These islands are almost fairytale-like, so it is no wonder they are a favorite holiday spot for many yachtsmen.
Due to only a few available docking spots in Hvar Town's marina, the marina in Palmižana comes highly recommended. There are several remarkable beaches nearby as well as four restaurants, a cocktail bar, and an art gallery, all within a few minutes' walk from ACI Marina.
Pakleni Islands are a great stop before heading towards Hvar Town, as you get to choose between a variety of isles, all unique in their own way. You can choose to dine on Galešnik, uninhabited and the closest one to Hvar, visit Jerolim, the best naturist beach according to CNN, head to Carpe Diem Beach if you want to party, or enjoy the arboretum, art gallery, and more on St. Klement, the biggest of all Pakleni Islands.

Stari Grad – A Journey Through History

Hvar's northern coast is home to yet another lovely port called Stari Grad (Old Town). Founded by the Greeks in 384 BC, this ancient little town is also the oldest town in Croatia. As opposed to Hvar Town, Stari Grad provides a pleasant refuge from the hubbub and summer crowds.
There's nothing better than soaking up the sun in one of its many picturesque squares or simply exploring a small part of its amazing history by visiting the City Museum, set in the neo-Renaissance Bianchini Palace. You can also visit Tvrdalj, a fortress that used to be the summerhouse of Petar Hektorović, one of Croatia's most prominent Renaissance writers.
If you prefer relaxing on the beach, then you should head to Dubovica Beach, which lies on the south side, right before you enter Stari Grad. There are beautiful old stone buildings all along the beach and a nice restaurant serving delicious food.

Due to its 2,400-year-old winemaking history, wine tours are very popular here. Stari Grad is also an ideal place to take scenic walks and appreciate the island's dramatic sunsets. North of Stari Grad are Tito's Caves, a lovely spot to watch the spectacular sunset. If you want to be like the locals, visiting Stari Grad is the perfect opportunity to try gregada, a local dish that represents the essence of the laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle of the old days.

Vrboska – The Little Venice of Hvar


Vrboska is a picturesque fishing village and a port on the northern coast of the island of Hvar, surrounded by vineyards and pine forests. It is often referred to as Little Venice due to several old bridges that connect the two sides of its bay, turning Vrboska into a very romantic destination.
The vicinity of the ACI Marina Vrboska makes this little port a favourite among yachtsmen, and it is open throughout the whole year.

Vrboska is known for its many beautiful beaches, such as Soline Beach, which also has an aqua park for the little ones. There is a range of sports activities you can take up here, such as windsurfing and kayaking.
While exploring Vrboska, you cannot miss out on visiting the church fortress of St. Mary of Grace, one of the most significant monuments on the island of Hvar. Climbing up to the roof of this 16th-century fortress is definitely a worthy endeavour, as you will be rewarded with a stunning view of Vrboska's deep bay.
Once in Vrboska, it would be a pity not to visit the Fishermen's Museum, which includes all kinds of fishing tools, nets, and old fish processing factory equipment.
Walking through the delightful narrow streets of the old town will undoubtedly take you to some of the local wineries, the Pinjata Winery being one of the most popular ones. Here, you can taste the island's indigenous grape varieties, enjoy an authentic setting, and sample a selection of local, home-made appetisers, a wonderful introduction to the local gastronomic offer.

Jelsa – An Idyllic Port with a Rich Heritage

Jelsa is another small port, 27 kilometres east of Hvar Town. Surrounded by thick pine forests, Jelsa’s intimate setting captures visitors quickly. Docking in Jelsa also means that many swimming coves and beautiful beaches are within easy reach. Jelsa has a vibrant restaurant scene with almost 20 restaurants to choose from in high season. Almost all restaurants focus on delivering authentic Dalmatian cuisine, and the chefs use locally sourced ingredients in the most inventive of ways. Apart from fine dining, Jelsa is the very heart of Hvar's long tradition of wine-making, so you can go wine tasting and try some of the indigenous Hvar grape varieties. If you are not exactly a wine-tasting aficionado, do not worry. This picturesque little town is the perfect place to sip a cocktail in the late afternoon hours and lazily watch the sunset.

If you have cravings for something sweet, you have come to just the right place. Jelsa is known as an ice cream heaven, with an ice cream-making tradition over 50 years old, so make sure you try some of these delicious gelatos as you stroll down the main square.
Once in Jelsa, you should not miss out on visiting Grapčeva Cave, one of the best-preserved Neolithic cave dwellings on the Mediterranean. Take a guided tour and enjoy a spectacular view of dramatic stalactites and stalagmites, and imagine life as it once was 3,000 years ago.

Vrbanj – A Tranquil Village in the Heart of Hvar


Vrbanj is a small, picturesque village nestled at the very heart of the island of Hvar. With a population of only 500 people, spending your vacation in this lavender-scented oasis means you get to experience a genuine Dalmatian ambience in total tranquility and comfort. Although rather small in size, this little village has charming cafes, a couple of grocery shops and an excellent restaurant where you won’t be able to resist relishing scrumptious local specialties. You also wouldn’t want to miss the opportunity to visit a wine tasting center or some of the important localities such as the Church of the Holy Spirit which was built in the 18th century. If you like sports, you can climb the highest peak on the island, St. Nicholas, from where you will enjoy stunning panoramic vistas. Whenever you wish to enjoy the island’s obvious attractions, you can easily walk to the nearest beach, Vrboska, only 4 kilometers away.
